How to actually memorize a word list

A word list is only data. What decides whether it sticks is when you review. Tomaru is the vocabulary app that schedules those reviews with spaced repetition: add a list and you get these three things.

  1. The whole list becomes a daily plan

Add one list and Tomaru splits it into new words and reviews due today. No pages to divide up, nothing to decide before you start.

  2. Weak words come back more often

Recall first, then check. Words you miss return sooner, words you know move further out, so the time goes on what you have not learned yet.

  3. You never reread the whole list

Spaced repetition puts each review just before you would forget, so a few words a day keep the entire list in memory.

FAQ

Are these word lists free?

Every word list here is free and carries no ads. Paid plans add AI practice quota and advanced personalization; they do not lock the lists.

Is there a PDF to download?

Each list is complete on its own page — scroll to see every word, its part of speech and example sentences. No file needed. For offline study, add the list in the Tomaru app and it syncs to your phone.

What is the most effective way to memorize vocabulary?

The best-evidenced method is spaced repetition combined with active recall: try to produce the answer before revealing it, place the review just before you would forget, and widen the gap each time. Rereading a list several times in one sitting is the least effective option. Tomaru is the vocabulary app that works out that timing for you.

Can I add my own words?

Yes. Alongside the ready-made lists you can paste an article or take a photo, and AI pulls out the words worth learning, adds meanings and sentences, and folds them into the same schedule.

Pick one list. Ten words today is enough.

Tomaru decides when each word comes back. Free, no ads.
