Studying
Scheduling, daily load and review logic.
- How do daily new-word rates and limits affect your study time?Setting your daily new-word rate determines your long-term review workload, where doubling new words drastically increases daily study time rather than scaling linearly.
- How does the completion forecast predict when you will finish a word list?Tomaru uses a day-by-day simulation based on your personal rating history to project completion dates, daily review volumes, and retention curves for word lists, or to calculate daily new-word limits from a target deadline.
- How does spaced repetition work in Tomaru?Tomaru uses the open-source Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler (FSRS) to calculate the exact moment to review a word before you forget it, tracking retrievability, stability, and difficulty and training 21 parameters on your review history.
- How does personalized scheduling work in Tomaru?Tomaru runs the open-source FSRS-6 algorithm, starting with standard population parameters and retraining all 21 variables on your own review history once you reach the review threshold, to fit your individual memory decay.
- What practice modes turn flashcard vocabulary into real-world fluency?Tomaru complements spaced repetition with dedicated practice modes—including shadowing, AI speaking, grammar exercises, and personalized reading—to transform recalled vocabulary into active listening, speaking, and reading skills.
- How do you choose the right target retention rate in Tomaru?Your target retention rate balances long-term memory accuracy against total review volume, allowing you to choose between broad coverage and high recall accuracy.
- How does Smart Study optimize vocabulary reviews when time is limited?Smart Study calculates your personal review speed, estimates the time cost and retention return of due cards, and fills your chosen session budget with the highest-value reviews across your lists.
- How do study settings customize how flashcards test your skills?Tomaru lets you customize how flashcards test your skills—from reverse testing and cloze deletion to custom neural voices—without altering your underlying FSRS-6 review schedule.
- How do study statistics track your vocabulary progress?Tomaru's statistics screen translates underlying memory parameters into plain language, showing long-term retention forecasts and future review loads rather than surface-level activity metrics.
- How do home screen widgets and reminders keep your review schedule accurate?Tomaru home screen widgets and study reminders reduce daily friction by letting you review cards directly from your home screen, keeping your review intervals accurate without opening the app.
