Flashcard audio is not playing

Audio playback in Tomaru requires an active network connection, available free-tier audio allowances, proper device volume settings, and enabling auto-play switches in study settings.

යාවත්කාලීන කළේ

Audio does not play automatically by default in Tomaru. Automatic audio playback on the front of a card and auto-play on the back are two separate switches that both start turned off. If you expect audio to play without tapping a card, check your study settings to ensure auto-play is enabled.

If tapping for audio still does not produce sound, work through these common causes:

Why is audio failing to play?

  • No internet connection: Tomaru operates online and does not store audio files locally on your device. Audio clips are fetched live over the network, so an active internet connection is required for playback.
  • Weekly allowance reached: Audio playback on free accounts is subject to weekly usage limits: 1,500 word audio plays and 300 example-sentence audio plays per week. If you reach your weekly limit, audio playback pauses until the counter resets or you upgrade your plan.
  • Device volume or silent mode: Ensure your device's media volume is turned up and that physical silent switches or Focus modes are not muting audio output.

If you have an active network connection, remaining audio allowance, auto-play enabled, and device volume turned up, try restarting the application.

How do I make audio play automatically when a card appears?

You can enable automatic audio playback for card fronts, card backs, or both within your study settings.

Why did audio stop working suddenly during my study session?

You may have lost internet connectivity or exhausted your weekly free-tier audio plays (1,500 word plays or 300 example-sentence plays per week).

Does Tomaru play audio when my phone is on silent?

On mobile devices, physical silent switches or system ringer modes may mute app playback depending on your device's media settings. Ensure media volume is active.
